Candle Care

How to Make the Most of Your Candle

Welcome to our guide on candle care! Proper care of your candles not only ensures a longer burn time but also maximises their fragrance and keeps them looking beautiful. Follow these simple steps to make the most of your candle and enjoy its ambiance to the fullest.

Trim the Wick
Before each use, trim the wick to about 5mm to prevent smoking and excessive flickering. A longer wick can cause uneven burning and can create a larger flame, which may lead to soot and overheating.

First Burn Matters
When lighting your candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the wax melts across the entire surface. This prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn for the life of the candle. This may take a few hours, so ensure you have enough time to let the candle burn uninterrupted.

Subsequent Burns
Keep the candle lit for no more than 3-4 hours at a time. After each burn, trim the wick to maintain its length and prevent soot. Avoid burning candles in drafty areas to prevent uneven burning and excessive flickering.

Extinguishing the Flame
Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame to extinguish the candle. This prevents wax splatter and ensures a safer extinguishing process. Avoid using the lid to smother the flame, as this can trap soot and smoke inside the jar.

Avoid Moving Candles While Lit
Always ensure the candle is extinguished and the wax has cooled before moving it.Hot wax can cause burns and may spill if the candle is moved while lit or still hot.

Keep Away from Children and Pets
Place candles out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidents.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Storage
Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Please leave the lid on when not in use as this will help to prolong the life of the candle. Avoid storing candles in a freezer or refrigerator, as this can cause the wax to crack.

Discontinue Use
Discontinue burning a candle when there is approximately 1cm of wax remaining at the bottom. Continued burning beyond this point can cause the container to overheat and potentially crack.

Reusing Containers
Once the candle has burned down, you can repurpose the container for storage or decoration. To clean wax residue from a vessel, place it in the freezer for a couple of hours until the wax hardens. Then, gently loosen the wax with a butter knife or spoon, and wipe away any remaining residue with a paper towel for a clean finish.
